During an official award ceremony held on October 14, 2026, in Lima, Andrea Katherine Orellana Manzano, Ph.D., was proclaimed one of the distinguished laureates of the 2026 L'Oréal – UNESCO For Women in Science Regional Award for Central America and the Andean Region.

Organized in partnership with prominent regional academic institutions, including Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Universidad del Rosario, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, and Universidad Espíritu Santo, the award recognizes scientific leadership, research excellence, and high-impact scholarship led by women scientists.

Following a rigorous technical assessment and jury deliberation, Dr. Orellana was awarded for her research project titled:

“Integrative Pharmacoepigenomic Markers as Predictive Determinants of Therapeutic Response in B-Cell Lymphomas: Toward Precision Oncology in Underrepresented Latin American Populations.”

The proposal stands out for its translational innovation and profound clinical and public health impact, investigating the epigenomic drivers that modulate therapeutic efficacy in regional cancer patients. In doing so, the study provides critical biomedical data to help bridge historical gaps in genetic representation across global precision oncology.

This international recognition highlights Dr. Orellana’s scientific leadership and impact in the biomedical sciences, reaffirming the core mission of the global program: the world needs science, and science needs women.
