The Faculty of Life Sciences (FCV) reaffirmed its commitment to community health through its active participation in the Intersectoral Tables of the Tarqui Parish, which were held monthly throughout 2025. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), coordinates efforts between academia and the public sector to address nutritional and epidemiological issues in the area.
Josseline Andrade, FCV professor and coordinator of the Supervised Practice, highlighted that the main objective is to generate proposals and coordinate activities that directly benefit the most vulnerable sectors. "We seek to contribute to the community, specifically in the fight against chronic childhood malnutrition," she noted.
Education with Social Impact
The program allows final-year Nutrition students to perform a comprehensive patient assessment. According to Oyuqui Loqui, a senior student, the experience has been enriching as it allows them to work alongside medical and nursing teams, providing nutritional counseling to patients with chronic diseases who lack information regarding their diet.
Certification and Recognition
As part of this program, rotational internship students have received training and certification as Tutors in Community Epidemiological Surveillance, authorizing them to train other local actors. In a recent event, ESPOL received certificates of recognition for its valuable technical and human contribution to the development of these working groups.
Through these actions, ESPOL not only guarantees excellence in the education of its future professionals but also consolidates its position as a strategic ally in improving the quality of life in Ecuador.
