To coordinate strategic actions and evaluate progress in the investigation of pathogens as well as respiratory and febrile infections, a technical working meeting was held for the binational PISAAC project (Project of Febrile Illness Surveillance in the Andean and Amazon Countries).
The gathering brought together delegates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), physicians and specialists from the Dr. Alejandro Mann Hospital Complex, and authorities from both the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the National Institute of Public Health Research (INSPI).
In Ecuador, this regional project, developed in partnership with Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), is led by ESPOL. During the session, the university was represented by Washington B. Cárdenas, Ph.D., research professor and Head of the Laboratory for Biological, Biotechnological, and Diagnostic Testing (ENBIDIA).
Through this international and inter-institutional collaboration, advanced diagnostic capabilities, clinical surveillance, and epidemiological monitoring are integrated across participating hospital facilities. This effort enables early warning generation and reinforces public health responses to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases across the Andean region.
