Biology students from the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) at ESPOL participated in the 9th Ecuadorian Ornithology Meeting (REO 2026), held from July 29 to August 2, 2026, in Cotacachi, Imbabura province. This gathering brought together students, researchers, professionals, birdwatchers, and representatives from various organizations dedicated to the study and conservation of Ecuadorian and Neotropical avifauna.

The ESPOL delegation attended keynote lectures, scientific presentations, workshops, poster sessions, and other academic exchange forums. These activities enabled students to explore recent research, emerging methodologies, and field experiences related to avian ecology, monitoring, and habitat conservation.

As part of the institutional representation, students Romina Sosa and Daniela Romero presented two scientific posters, sharing their research with the national ornithological community. Presenting research in this type of forum allows students to strengthen their skills in communicating scientific findings, answering technical questions, exchanging perspectives, and receiving feedback from experienced researchers and professionals in the field.

The participation of Biology students in scientific conferences is a cornerstone of their professional development. These spaces complement classroom learning and bring future biologists closer to real-world challenges in scientific inquiry, biodiversity management, and conservation decision-making.

Furthermore, networking with specialists, organizations, and students from other institutions fosters collaborative partnerships, inspires new research questions, and opens academic and professional pathways. The poster format, in particular, facilitates direct engagement between authors and attendees, encouraging in-depth discussions on methodologies, findings, and practical applications.
