An outstanding delegation from the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) represented ESPOL at NUTRITION 2026, the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), held from June 25 to 28 in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Recognized as the world's premier global forum for nutritional science, the event brought together thousands of international experts, scientists, and healthcare professionals to discuss the most innovative advances in clinical nutrition, public health, and molecular research.
During the conference, Diana Carvajal, Ph.D., presented a standardized molecular nutrition protocol derived from an inter-institutional project developed in strategic partnership with SOLCA. The study was co-authored by Fernanda Bertuccez, Ph.D., alongside a medical team from SOLCA, demonstrating academia's commitment to supporting cancer patients through top-tier clinical research. Meanwhile, Sara Flores, M.Sc., presented the findings of a study examining breastfeeding practices and nutritional health among Amazonian Kichwa mothers and infants—a multidisciplinary research project co-authored by FLS faculty members Juan Manuel Cevallos, Ph.D., Luz Valencia, M.Sc., Mariela González Narváez, Ph.D., and Andrea Orellana, Ph.D.
