t is not just a project; it is the synthesis of years of study, nights of research, and the dream of transforming the agro-industrial sector. The recent "The Final Pitch" event tested not only scientific rigor but also the ability to connect, convince, and captivate. In this edition, after intense deliberation, Maoly Toapanta Ayala emerged as the grand winner, proving that science and effective communication are the perfect combination for leadership.
Applied Science: A Predictive Model for Fine Aroma Cocoa
The project that earned Maoly first place is titled: "Predictive Model of Microbial Growth During the Fermentation of Fine Aroma Cocoa." Moving beyond a theoretical proposal, Maoly took a decisive step toward technological innovation by creating a functional prototype designed to monitor and optimize this critical process in the cocoa value chain.
This development promises to provide producers with precise tools to ensure the sensory quality of our flagship product, reducing uncertainty during fermentation through the use of predictive microbiological models.
Exceptional Mentorship for a Winning Project
Behind this technical and strategic success was the constant guidance of her tutor, Dr. María Isabel Jiménez Feijoó, Dean of our Faculty. This high-level mentorship was fundamental in channeling the project's scientific rigor into a practical and scalable solution, reflecting our authorities' commitment to cutting-edge training.
Five Minutes to Change the World
The dynamic of "The Final Pitch" is a race against the clock: students have exactly 300 seconds to present their proposals to a jury and an expectant audience. Maoly competed against five other high-level projects, standing out for her ability to explain complex microbiology concepts clearly and persuasively. Her prototype and narrative achieved the perfect balance, captivating everyone present.
The Close of a Chapter and the Beginning of a Legacy
This event marks much more than the end of a course; it represents the final great challenge before entering the professional world. Seeing our students defend prototypes of their own creation with such passion is a reminder of why ESPOL leads innovation in the country.
