First Cohort of the Master’s Program in Plant Health Successfully Completes Thesis Defenses

The Faculty of Life Sciences at ESPOL hosted the thesis defense sessions for the first cohort of the Master’s Program in Plant Health. The evaluating committee—composed of Dr. Adriana Santos, the respective tutors for each student, and the program coordinator, Dr. Lisbeth Espinoza—assessed seven master’s candidates who presented their degree projects, contributing innovative proposals for the sustainable agricultural development of the country.

 

The projects defended were:

  • María Angela Vera Flores: Use of endophytic microorganisms as a biocontrol strategy for Theobroma cacao diseases: progress and perspectives. (Tutor: Daynet Sosa del Castillo, Ph.D.)

  • Valeria Mishelle Cos Farias: Identification of oregano extract for pest control in lemon cultivation (Citrus limon). (Tutor: Fabian Gordillo Manssur, Ph.D.)

  • Magaly Johanna Chacha Saltos: Evaluation of irrigation water voltage on nutrient assimilation and disease tolerance in two varieties of beefsteak tomato. (Tutor: Freddy Arturo Magdama Tobar, Ph.D.)

  • Hamilton Octavio Intriago Reyna: Evaluation of the antifungal potential of copper nanoparticles biosynthesized by Trichoderma against Moniliophthora roreri. (Tutor: Pablo Israel Álvarez Romero, Ph.D.)

  • Francisco Andres Ugarte Barco: Evaluation of the potential beneficial activity of the banana rhizobiome on crop health in plantations in El Oro. (Tutor: Diego Fernando Quito Ávila)

  • Carlos Alfredo Armijos Nieto: In vitro evaluation of the bioefficacy of three isolates and a Trichoderma spp. consortium against Ralstonia solanacearum. (Tutor: Freddy Arturo Magdama Tobar, Ph.D.)

  • Anthony Roberto Valle Choez: Development and Validation of a Standard Area Diagram for the Quantification of Rice Leaf Smut. (Tutor: Pablo Israel Álvarez Romero, Ph.D.)
