As part of the practical activities designed to complement classroom learning, students from the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) participated in a technical field visit to an organic banana plantation currently being established in the Santa Elena Peninsula. The tour was guided and supervised by professor José Rivas, Ph.D., who accompanied the future professionals throughout the day of observation and hands-on learning in the field.
During the activity, the ESPOL students directly analyzed the key processes required to implement a sustainable export crop, covering essential areas such as irrigation and drainage system management, agricultural mechanization, plant nutrition, and crop production under organic standards. Through these practical field experiences, the FLS reaffirms its commitment to providing an education of excellence that bridges academic theory with the real-world challenges of the country’s agricultural sector.
