On June 26, biologist Michelle Vela, a teaching technician from the Faculty of Life Sciences (FCV) at ESPOL, gave a talk to the university community regarding her participation in the regional training course on Blue Carbon and nuclear and isotopic techniques for coastal ecosystem management, held in Cayo Santa María and the city of Cienfuegos, Cuba.
This training was conducted within the framework of project RLA 7028 of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), coordinated by the Center for Environmental Studies of Cienfuegos (CEAC). It brought together researchers from various countries across the region associated with the REMARCO marine-coastal network.

Over the course of two weeks, participants strengthened their capacities in evaluating carbon stocks and accumulation rates in seagrass meadows, thereby contributing to the development of modern tools for the sustainable management of coastal ecosystems through the Blue Carbon approach.
The talk took place at the auditorium of the Faculty of Maritime Engineering and Marine Sciences (FIMCM), a partner institution in these initiatives, as part of a joint commitment to training professionals equipped to face the environmental and climate challenges of the region.
