Training Provided to Community Promoters of the Bulubulu River Basin for Upcoming Nutritional Assessment
With the objective of strengthening local capacities and ensuring active community participation, the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS), under the coordination of Dr. Marynes Montiel, conducted an initial training session for promoters from communities located within the Bulubulu River basin. This technical workshop represents the preparatory phase for the upcoming nutritional and health assessment to be executed by the institution.
FLS Welcomes 122 New Students for this 2026-I Academic Term
On May 6, the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) at ESPOL welcomed 122 new students from the Biology, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Nutrition and Dietetics programs. The welcome session was designed to integrate them into university life and familiarize them with the faculty's academic spaces.

In a joint effort to strengthen food security and neonatal well-being in crisis contexts, MSc. Luz María Valencia Erazo, a professor in the Nutrition program, participated as a speaker in the "Obstetric and Neonatal Emergency Strengthening Workshop." The event was organized by the Guayas Provincial Health Directorate of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP).
Aquaforest Project: A Living Laboratory in a New Mangrove Ecosystem
Under the leadership of the Life Sciences Faculty (FLS), the Aquaforest project continues to set milestones in the country's coastal conservation. This initiative, launched in 2022, utilizes dredged sediments to create new mangrove ecosystems, promoting a nature-based solution for climate resilience.
Chongón Colonche Mountain Range Symposium: Uniting Science and Strategic Alliances for Sustainability

ESPOL becomes the first university in South America to achieve ACEND international standards in Nutrition and Dietetics
The Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) has set a historic precedent in higher education. The Nutrition and Dietetics program, part of the Faculty of Life Sciences (FCV), has officially been granted Candidacy for Accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND®).
