On March 25, 2026, the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) celebrated the successful thesis defense of Christian Ronny Lasso García, who earned his Master’s degree in Applied Biosciences with a Major in Biodiscovery. His research stands out for rescuing and scientifically analyzing the traditional diet of the Kichwa breastfeeding population.

The final project, titled "Development of nutritional tables based on the chemical composition of two fermented beverages: Cassava (Yuca) Chicha and Chonta Chicha of the Kichwa breastfeeding population," provides, for the first time, a detailed profile of the nutritional components of these traditional drinks. This contribution is essential for understanding the energy and micronutrient intake in the diets of breastfeeding mothers within intercultural contexts.

The defense was chaired by Ph.D. Washington Cárdenas Medranda, with Ph.D. Andrea Orellana Manzano serving as tutor. The evaluating tribunal consisted of prominent researchers Ph.D. Patricia Manzano Santana and Ph.D. Nardy Diez García, who highlighted the social and scientific relevance of the project.
